Fourier decomposition parameters derived for classical Cepheids in the Small Magellahic Cloud are compared with similar well established data for galactic Cepheids. This complements a similar study done for the Large Magellanic Cloud. The primary observational material is 72 photographic light curves published by Butler (1976). Each B magnitude light curve is defined by only about 30 observations. It is, therfore, essential to compute standard errors for individual Fourier parameters and to take these into account in the analysis. As for the LMC Cepheids we find that application to the SMC sample of the phase definition recently proposed by Stellingwerf and Donohoe, gives a very simple Fourier description in good agreement with their simple models in most cases. Constructing power spectra by means of simultaneous least squares fit with two periods, we select one candidate for double mode pulsation: HV 1903 with fundamental period 5d.092 and period ratio = 0.71. More detailed observations are necessary to confirm its double mode status.
