The pulsation properties of classical Cepheids in the LMC are studied based on 165 photographic light curves published by Wayman et al. (1984). A detailed discussion is given of error estimation, including checks of the statistical properties of derived Fourier parameters. Standard errors calculated for individual Fourier parameters are used in the investigation of progression sequences and other pulsation properties. Systematic changes in phase differences with period derived for the LMC sample are compared with corresponding data for Galactic Cepheids, and very small significant differences are found. It is shown that application to the LMC sample of the phase definition recently proposed by Stellingwerf and Donohoe (1986) gives a very simple Fourier description in good agreement with their simple models in most cases. A preliminary list of double mode Cepheid candidates in the LMC is given.
