An Einstein universe is 'halved' in two ways. The spin-0 field is constrained to satisfy Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions on the submanifold S(2) which bounds S(3) equatorially. For the spin-1/2 field, the spatial section is factored to give the lens space S(3)/Z2. In both cases the vacuum expectation value of the stress tensor is identical to that in the complete Einstein universe.
