A list is given of nine carbon stars which fall in or very near clusters
in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). Statistical arguments indicate that
at least several of these may be physical members. The low frequency of
occurrence of carbon stars in LMC open clusters conforms with the
apparent rarity of this phenomenon in our own Galaxy.
