The carbon and nitrogen abundances of three stars belonging to NGC 330 (A7, B40, and B38) are determined. The ratios C/Fe and N/Fe are found to be solar, and it is concluded that mixing with CN-processed material has not affected these stars' surface abundances. It is argued that the abundances represent the initial composition of the gas from which the stars of NGC 330 formed. The abundances of the light elements in the stars of NGC 330 are compared to the abundances found in the field stars and in the H II regions of the SMC. Unlike the overdeficiency of C and N found by Dufour et al. (1982) in the H II regions of the SMC, it is shown that in the NGC 330 stars the carbon and nitrogen deficiency is about the same as the deficiency of the other elements, particularly oxygen and sulfur.
