CAPELLA is software for crowded fields. The package was built in order to reduce the stellar fields in the southern arms of the galaxy M33. These very large fields (2000×2000 pixels) are extremely crowded, have an irregular sky background and the star images show an irregular pear shaped form. The sampling rate is 5 pixels FWHM. The software has also been applied to other images including globular clusters (image intensifier) or dense stellar association (CCD).
