The formation of most ring galaxies is believed to be via the gravitational effects in interacting galaxies, but this does not appear to be the unique process of ring-galaxy formation. A ring galaxy could possibly form as the result of gravitational collapse of an isolated galaxy. Ring-galaxy formation is studied in this sense by means of N-body simulation. And indeed good ring-like structures do result from the numerical investigation.
