It is shown that a bar which possesses a 1:1 resonance is unlikely to
extend close to corotation and suggested that at least some bars in
galaxies end because of this resonance. In this case the spiral arms are
confined within the corotation radius. This could explain why dust lanes
along the spiral arms often appear on the trailing side of the spiral.
