Results from calibration tests with the Dust Impact Detection System-Impact Plasma and Momentum Detector on board Giotto are applied to the SP-1 and SP-2 dust detectors flown on the two Vega Halley probes. It is found that at constant speeds a linear dependency exists between the impact charge and the particle mass. At an encounter speed of 78 km/sec (Vega) the charge yields for ion, carbon, and silicate particles are about twice as high as at 69 km/sec (Giotto). For particles with a density of 1 g/cu cm, the penetration limits of the SP-1 films were 7.0 x 10 to the -16th g and 1.4 x 10 to the -14th g for Vega 1 and Vega 2 respectively.
