This proposal supports deep Mosaic CCD imaging to be made in the uvby and Ca bands of the central 0.2 square degrees of the Carina dSph, by providing the filter calibration and the zeropoints for the local standards. The project as a whole will provide individual metallicities, reddenings, gravities, and effective temperatures for roughly 200 Horizontal Branch (HB), 450 Red Clump (RC), and 500 Red Giant (RG) stars in Carina. The new data will allow us to split Carina stars from background/ foreground objects, and in turn to estimate the metallicity distribution of pure old (HB) and relatively young (RC) stars. At the same time, the comparison between new synthetic and observed Color-Magnitude diagrams will supply key constraints on the star formation history (SFH) of this galaxy. Individual reddenings and metallicities for RR Lyraes stars will give an accurate distance and may allow us to probe the 3D structure of Carina; from our previous work we have already measured periods and magnitudes for 74 RR Lyrae and 16 Anomalous Cepheids.
