We propose to proceed to the next step in the program to determine Cephe distances to relatively nearby resolved galaxies that have produced type Ia supernovae (SNeIa). The feasibility of the program has been shown by our results for IC4182, where 27 Cepheids were found and used to show that V(max)=-19.76 for SNIa 1937C. Since present evidence indicates that SNeIa are good standard candles, such determinations calibrate the Hubble diagram for SNeIa at sufficiently large distances where streaming relative to the Hubble flow are negligible. From the results of SN1937C, have estimated H0=52+/-9 km/s/Mpc, where the uncertainty comes almost en from calibrating only 1 SNIa. Calibration of additional SNeIa are requi to determine the scatter in absolute magnitude to directly examine their worth as standard candles. If the indication from other evidence confirmed, H0 will be determined to within 10 percent from the same dat NGC 5253 (the host of SNeIa 1895B and 1972E) is slated for observation with HST in Cycle 3. All other suitable galaxies larger distances where the Cepheids can be found only with a refurbishe We therefore propose to observe NGC 4496 and NGC 4356, hosts of the well observed SNeIa 1960F and 1981B respectively, to find Cepheids, determine distance, and hence the peak absolute magnitudes of the SNIa produced in them.
