Approximate analytical expressions for the auxiliary functions of
radiative-transfer theory are presented for a homogeneous layer of given
optical depth with isotropic scattering. The results are compared with
numerical calculations of the same functions. The accuracy of the
approximate expressions is shown to be satisfactory.
