Previous calculations of the spatial-distribution function for muons in extensive air showers are reviewed, and factors are considered which should be taken into account when determining the spatial dispersion of muons. It is proposed that spatial-distribution functions for muons be calculated analytically using the composition of the perpendicular-pulse distribution function for nuclear scattering in the geomagnetic field and a two-dimensional Maxwellian distribution, which effectively takes into account all other forms of scattering. It is shown that this technique allows the spatial-distribution function of muons to be calculated analytically with practically the same physical approximations used in the Monte Carlo method.
