Shapes of the contact surface of Comet Halley are calculated according to a model in which the position of the contact surface is determined by a balance between the magnetic field pressure and the ion-neutral drag. Shapes of the contact surface under various conditions show similar features: a round head and a finite tail. The size of the cavity is proportional to Q to the power 3/4, where Q is the water sublimation rate, and is inversely proportional to the square root of the total ram pressure of the solar wind. According to these relations, the dimension of the contact surface increases as the comet approaches the Sun.
