The appearance of Cyg X-2 in the IR, optical and UV is calculated. This is done under the assumption that Cyg X-2 is a binary system containing an early G type primary which is heated on one side by the X-rays emitted from the secondary. It is shown that this model is consistent with all available data, including the UV excess which is observed and the appearance of certain lines in emission. We predict that Cyg X-2 will exhibit relatively large orbital color variations, unlike Sco X-1. We find that in general the differences in the optical properties of Cyg X-2 and Sco X-1 can be clearly attributed to their different X-ray intensities. The dependence of the results on some of the X-ray properties is studied.
