The problem of determining the physical characteristics of a meteor on the basis of the observed trajectory is formulated and solved. A simple method of trajectory approximation is proposed which makes it possible to estimate the meteor mass. Considering the example of the Valec fireball, the observed luminosity is compared with that calculated on the basis of the solution of the gasdynamic problem of radiating air flow past the meteor body. The dynamic mass of the meteor obtained in this way is shown to be several times less than the photometric mass.
