The dependence of the flux density of unscattered gamma rays on height above the surfaces of Venus and the earth is calculated. For each height, a caculation is made of the area from which a given flux of gamma rays is 'collected'. The spectra of scattered gamma rays and their integral fluxes at various heights above the Venus surface are calculated; and the effect of the atmosphere on gamma-ray detection is assessed. It is noted that the results obtained can be used to determine the optimal conditions for the measurement of gamma-ray fields above the surfaces of Venus and the earth.
