The paper considers an approach which makes it possible to determine the shape of the probability distribution function of estimates of the coordinates of an optical star-image centroid when the image is obtained with a solid charge-transfer device. The scope for the application of the distributed space method of estimates is discussed for the case when statistical hypotheses are tested under conditions of a priori uncertainty of statistical parameters of signals, noise, and the sky background.
