A simple method based on Minnaert's formula is proposed for calculating absorption-line and band intensities at different points on a planet with a semiinfinite homogeneous atmosphere. Equations and data tables are presented which can be used in the calculations. As an example, the central intensities of the CH4 absorption bands at 6190 and 7250 A on Jupiter are calculated.
