Calcium triplet line emission in the near infrared at λ8498, λ8542 and λ8662 from Be stars was observed earlier. The authors show that the emission cannot arise from the H II region due to the Be star formed in the circumstellar envelope but can arise in a region outside the H II region. This region which the authors call the C II region is produced in the gas envelope by the far ultraviolet radiation of the Be star. The electrons for recombination with Ca III are from ionization of carbon. The authors have solved the radiation transfer equation and obtained the strength of the triplet emission. The values obtained agree with the observed values.
