As a followup to a recent photometric study of BX Peg, spectroscopic observations have been obtained. Double-line radial velocity curves are presented. The curves indicate exceptionally large orbital veloc- ities of about 265 and 100 km/s, respectively, for the secondary and primary components. The systemic velocity is ˜25 km/s. A spectroscopic orbital solution and a simultaneous B, V light curve and velocity curve solution is presented. These reveal that BX Peg is a W-type W UMa contact system with a substantial fillout of ˜20%. A semimajor axis of 2.02 Rsun and a mass ratio, M2/M1, of 0.38 is calculated. The total system mass is 1.4 Msun. The rate of angular momentum loss gives evidence that BX Peg is rapidly merging into a single star.
