The irregular changes in the light curves of several variable stars have been proved to be due to deterministic chaos. Moreover, several simple models of nonlinear oscillators have been shown to be capable of revealing the origin of these irregular changes. In this work, we introduce a nonlinear, nonadiabatic one-zone model intended to study the irregular variability of some Mira-like variables. We perform a parametric study of it, and we present some particular solutions that reproduce with reasonable accuracy the observed behaviour of these variable stars.
