Scientific paper
The authors examine the technological feasibility and the scientific prospects for a robotic sample-return mission to Mars. Moreover, they describe an international effort to coordinate the future exploration of Mars - the Mars Architecture Team. This group conducted its work during the summer of 1998 and presented detailed recommendations for research in the first two decades of the new millennium to NASA, CNES (French Space Agency), ASI (Italian Space Agency), ESA (European Space Agency), and numerous science advisory councils.
