Preliminary approximate calculations are presented which show that the dust responsible for the fading of RCB stars could be formed in an explosive process. Since in RCB stars the dust cloud covers the complete disk of the star, the time during which heated gas expands to occupy a region of radius R and the value of T for R of roughly 10 to the 13th cm are obtained. Formulas are given for the mass of dust formed in the atmosphere during a given time by analyzing the concentration of the grains in a cloud of radius R, the carbon partial pressure, the concentration of the carbon atoms, the initial temperature of the gas, and the energy expended on heating the gas.
