The brightening of one of the eight knots or hot spots observed in the nuclear region of the Sc galaxy NGC 2903 is reported. Plates taken with an electronographic camera on the 30-in. reflector at McDonald Observatory on January 31, 1978 were compared with those taken at Pic-du-Midi Observatory with the 20-mm Lallemand camera attached to the 106-cm reflector on February 13, 1980. Knot a (as classified by Oka et al., 1974) was observed to be 1 to 1.5 magnitudes brighter on the 1980 plates than in 1978 or even March 1979, an increase of about 2.3 times. The brightening can be explained by a supernova explosion within knot a with an absolute magnitude of -16.5.
