A segmented focal plane detector has been used to study the breakup of 125 MeV ^16O ions incident on various targets into ^4He and ^12C fragments at relative energies between 50 keV and 4 MeV. The relative energy spectra from elastic breakup events are dominated by sequential breakup of the 9.84 MeV, and 10.36 MeV excited states in ^16O. There is also some evidence of direct breakup at relative energies below 1 MeV. Applications of this technique to obtain radiative capture cross sections for ^4He and ^12C at stellar energies will be discussed.
