The general topology of the braiding in Saturn's F ring is explained by means of the theory of invariant surfaces to which a plasma would confine itself. It is found that this surface, in the framework of self-consistent fields, is generated by two braided helicoids turning in opposite directions. It is noted that the eccentricity of this configuration is due basically to the topology of the field-free space imposed by the dipole field of the planet, solar wind, and possibly, the ring currents existing in the other rings. If the model proposed here is right, then the system is dynamic and depends on the field-free space configuration.
