A Brackett-γ map has been obtained in the bright southern H II region RCW 38. The equivalent width of Brackett-γ near the centre is fairly constant and consistent with that expected from recombination theory. A small equivalent width in the periphery of the H II region indicates the presence of some additional continuum emission source, which might be explained by the small grain model applied to reflection nebulae. The existence of a cluster of stars around the central exciting object which has so far been identified as IRS2 is suggested by the comparison of the continuum flux with previous multi-aperture data.
