The authors used the CTIO 8-channel IR grating spectrometer with a resolution of 290 km s-1 to study a highly excited compact "blob" in the Large Magellanic Cloud N159. The Brγ and H2υ = 1-0S(1) lines were detected. They find that the observed ratio of the Q-branch to the υ = 1-0 S(1) line intensity is more consistent with the model of shock excitation than that of UV pumping. The Brγ line appears to be broader than the H2S(1) line and must consist of multiple velocity components, one of which has a radial velocity larger than 400 km s-1.
