An expression is obtained for determining the electron density in a hydrogen plasma on the basis of the last observable line in the Balmer series. The expression is derived for the case of line broadening by the Stark effect (ions + electrons) and the Doppler effect when the observations are made in the presence of background radiation that reduces the line contrast.
