It is shown that at BLR (broad line region) column densities higher than 10 exp 23/sq cm, the formation of H2 is enhanced significantly by the presence of dust. The radiative association of H(n = 1) and H*(n = 2) does not contribute much to increasing the abundance of H2 in the neutral zone. It is suggested that several excited states of hydrogen may be important in H2 formation via associative ionization.
