The paper reviews evidence for and against the existence of black holes in globular clusters. The X-ray pattern detected in the globular cluster M15 would seem to indicate a point mass equal to about 800 solar masses (this point mass would be a black hole), but calculations that take into account the cluster's mass loss suggest that the X-rays are caused by the interaction of a binary system with a third star. The evolution of globular clusters is discussed with attention to the luminosity and mass function, parameters that characterize the cluster. Characteristics of clusters and some surface brightness distributions are presented.
