Mergers of binary supermassive black holes are believed to result in recoil velocities of up to 4000 km/s for the product black hole. If the merger occurs in an active AGN, this may result in a velocity shift of the broad emission lines (produced near the black hole) relative to the narrow lines (produced in the host galaxy). We report results of a systematic search for such velocity shifts among AGN in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey.
