Results are presented of an experiment involving the bistatic radar sounding of the lunar surface from a satellite (Luna 22) using periodic linear FM signals with a deviation of 256 kHz and a repetition period of 500 microsec. It is found that the method used can result in radar imagery of the lunar surface and in good measurements of deviations of the lunar figure from a spherical shape and of the height profile of the surface. In particular the technique was used to measure the height profile near the Rocca crater and to construct reflectance maps for this region.
