Quasi-steady-state approximate mathematical models of dynamical processes with two time scales (such as stellar evolution) are examined analytically, with a focus on the behavior of the models near bifurcation points. Consideration is given to dissipative dynamics, unfoldings, conservative dynamics, and self-gravitating fluids. The patterns revealed by the analysis are shown in graphs and diagrams and discussed in detail.
