Quasi-periodic biennial variations of the mean probability of Es occurrence during the nighttime hours (21-02 LT) over the period 1977-1986 are determined from an analysis of oblique-incidence sounding data along polar radio paths obtained for four months (January, April, July, and October) characterizing the four seasons. The results indicate that the discovered biennial quasi-periodicity covers a region of substantial latitudinal extension.
