The authors present a general solution of an anisotropic Bianchi type-I multidimensional cosmological model. They assume that (1+n)-dimensional space-time is filled with perfect fluid satisfying a simple barotropic equation of state p = αρ (-1 ≤ α ≤ 1). Matter, except for matter satisfying the Zel'dovich equation of state, causes the anisotropy to decay. They also show that the dynamical dimensional reduction is possible only in vacuum models and in models with matter satisfying the stiff (α = 1) equation of state.
