Despite differing from doubly-magic ^32Mg by a single proton, ^33Al has not been well-studied. At the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory's Coupled Cyclotron Facility, both ^33Al and ^33Mg have been produced following fragmentation of a 140 MeV/nucleon ^40Ar beam in a beryllium target. These isotopes were separated using the A1900 fragment separator and implanted in a double-sided silicon strip detector; this detector was also used to observe the subsequent beta-decays. Two large germanium detectors were used to detect beta-delayed gamma rays. By directly correlating implant and decay events, half-life curves and correlated gamma-ray spectra have been obtained for each species. These results, and their implications on the low-energy structure of the daughter nuclei, will be discussed.
