Application of the method of separation of variables to the analysis of electromagnetic scattering by spheroidal shapes is illustrated for the case of a coated dielectric spheroid at an arbitrary polarization and angle of incidence of a uniform plane wave. Appropriate rotational - translational addition theorems are then used to formulate the solution for systems of spheroids randomly translated and rotated with respect to each other. Numerical results are generated from the exact analytic solutions for a single dielectric spheroid coated with lossy material, as well as for configurations of two arbitrarily oriented spheroids, for various axial ratios and with axis lengths comparable with the wavelength of the incident wave.
