A review is given of a number of papers concerned with the structure of air showers in the size range of one hundred thousand to one hundred million particles per shower. The results of antiproton-proton collision experiments carried out at energies equivalent to the lower limits of air shower energies are discussed, and data for the validity of scaling in the fragmentation region of hadron-nucleus interactions is examined. Experimental results concerned with the electron, muon, and hadron components of air showers are presented, and the behavior of high-energy interactions is considered.
