The southern cool peculiar star HD 197417 (A0p, Sr-Cr-Eu) shows a large variation in the photometric index c1. Spectroscopic investigations point out variations in the profile and equivalent width of the Ca II-K line, which are correlated with those of Sr II, Eu II, Fe II and Cr II lines. The authors investigate the possibility that this periodic behavior of the Ca II-K line may be due to UV blanketing or to diffusion effects. The appearance of wings at the maximum of intensity of the Ca II-K lines is discussed.
