The spontaneous reconnection of magnetic field lines is examined assuming that the electric field has a square-law dependence on time. The electric and magnetic fields in the whole space considered are calculated along with the form of the traveling wave. Profiles of electric and magnetic field components are presented, and the B and E configurations are calculated. The role of dissipative effects in the spontaneous-reconnection process is examined, and the main characteristics of associated magnetospheric substorms are evaluated.
