Cosmological models were tested against the structure and composition of the Earth as deduced from seismological data. It is shown that the Earth appears to be a differentiated body with the crust, mantle, core and inner core being the main subdivisions. Presently forming oceanic crust are understood as a differentiated, or partial melt fraction, of the upper mantle and petrological models of the upper mantle agree well with the seismological data.
