The paper discusses the generation of the baryon asymmetry of the universe by a scalar field condensate >χ< carrying a baryon charge. In contrast to the original version of the Affleck-Dine model of baryogenesis, the particle creation by the time-dependent scalar field χ has been taken into consideration. Two essentially different shapes of the scalar field potential with and without flat directions are analysed. It has been proved that for a potential with flat direction, the process of particle creation leads generically to heavy suppression of baryon asymmetry. The generation of the observed baryon excess is possible in the case of low-rate particle creation. It can thus be realized when χ plays the role of the inflaton field and the coupling to other fields is weak. In the case of the potential without flat directions, the generation of the observed baryon asymmetry is shown to be possible for reasonable values of the model parameters.
