The stability of a baroclinic zonal current in the radiative zones of rotating stars to symmetric perturbations subject to isothermal rigid boundaries is considered. The dependence of Ri(c) upon the other parameters are studied for the nonhydrostatic case. One result is that the zonal current is for typical stellar conditions unstable. A nonlinear analysis about the point of onset of instability for stellar parameters yields the result that the heat transport caused by convection is negligible and that the momentum transport is in the order of E/P.
