The red spot of Jupiter is brought into excellent quantitative agreement with observational data by an allowance for the vertical wave motion, which is attributable to the altitude gradient of the atmosphere density. Petviashvili's barotropic model which is in qualitative agreement with observational data and ignores the vertical wave motion, is modified by taking into account the baroclinic effect, and quantitative results before and after the modification are compared to the observational data.
