The gaseous and stellar spirals driven by a growing, symmetric and directly rotating bar in a disk with no inner Lindblad resonance are studied. The self-potential of the spirals is taken into account and that of the stars is found to be particularly important in determining the form of the arms. The response was never found to be bar-like between corotation and outer Lindblad resonance. The form of the spirals as a function of the disk and bar parameters are discussed.
