The effect of dispersion in monomode optical waveguides used in broad-band applications such as stellar interferometry is discussed. Dispersion arising from unequal lengths of fibre and from thermo-optic and strain-optic effects is considered. By using a combined thermal and strain based servo control, compensation for length inequalities exceeding fibre cutting accuracies can be achieved. Preliminary measurements to determine the dispersive nature of thermo-optic and strain-optic coefficients are presented.
