False (background) events represent a serious complication in optical transient searches on astronomical emulsions. The frequency of such events is only poorly understood and for this reason a more detailed analysis was carried out using archival plates from the Ondrejov Observatory collection. The properties and frequency of all main background sources found on Ondrejov plates are described and discussed.
