Exact Solutions, Renormalization, Origin And Formation Of The Universe

We compute the renormalized vacuum expectation values of Tμν for a conformally coupled, massive scalar quantum field on a Robertson-Walker background with conformal scale factor & and show that for κm2=288π2 we obtain a self-consistent cosmological model. The results are obtained via an adiabatic renormalization procedure and checked in the framework of the point-splitting renormalization. The difference, in the massless limit, between the adiabatic and conformal vacua are briefly illustrated.
